How it is made

Pottery is the oldest known handicraft, dating back 10,000 years to the Neolithic period. In these prehistoric times, lifestyles in the Middle East and Africa were transitioning from nomadic hunters and gatherers to farmers who put down roots and planted crops.

Today we use advanced techniques to produce a wide range of ceramics, from sculptures to dishes, from tiles to flower pots.

I'd like to introduce here my pottery making methods, as I make them.

"You are not an artist simply because you paint or sculpt or make pots that cannot be used. An artist is a poet in his or her own medium. And when an artist produces a good piece, that work has mystery, an unsaid quality; it is alive."

— American ceramic artist and painter Toshiko Takaezu
